DSW reports improved sales

US branded footwear retailer DSW Inc. has reported net income of $15.3 million on net sales of $301.3 million for the second quarter ended July 29, compared with net income of $9.3 million on net sales of $276.2 million for the comparable period in 2005. Comparable store sales for the second quarter of 2006 increased 2.2% compared with the same period last year.

For the six months ended July 29, net income reached $32.9 million on net sales of $617.8 million, compared with net income of $16.2 million on net sales of $558 million for the comparable period last year. Comparable store sales for the six months ended July 29 increased 3.2%.

Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, DSW offers a selection of brand name and designer dress, casual and athletic footwear for women and men. As of August 29, the company operated 209 stores.
