The second shoe factory in São José do Hortêncio, will soon start operating. The company, called Jimmmy & Chris Indústria de Calçados, is to produce shoes for the Greek market only. According to the mayor of São José do Hortêncio, Anibaldo Petry, the new factory is expected to invest over R$300,000 ($138,000) and should generate 50 direct jobs.

Dealings between the company and the local municipal government started approximately four months ago and the factory is being set up in an industrial complex in the town.

“We decided to produce in Brazil because of the situation generated by the foreign currency exchange market here and due to the problems in the Greek domestic market,” stated director Sérgio Cezar.

The contract signed between the municipality and the company for the 1,200 square metre site is for a ten-year period which may be extended.
