US-based footwear retailer Payless ShoeSource, Inc. has reported a 2.2% increase in same-store sales during the second quarter of fiscal 2006, ended July 29.

Total sales for the second quarter reached $706.4 million, a 1.8% increase from $693.9 million during the second quarter 2005.

As of the end of the second quarter 2006, the company operated a total of 4,584 stores.
