Footwear production boosts exports in Nepal

According to a government economic survey, 2,037,000 pairs of leather shoes were produced in Nepal between July 2005 and March 2006 compared with 1,416,000 pairs in the corresponding period the previous year.

The survey also stated that the country exported hide and skins worth Rs193 million ($2.6 million) in this period compared with Rs172.2 million in the same period a year ago.

Nepal’s total exports during the first eight months of fiscal year 2005-6 increased by 14.7% to Rs43.31 billion, compared with 4.6% growth in the corresponding period the previous year.
