Presidential visit for Allen-Edmonds Shoe Factory

President Bush is to spend half a day in Wisconsin, USA, where he will visit the Allen-Edmonds shoe manufacturing facility and retail store in Port Washington.

At a time when 98% of American footwear is imported, he will get an inside look at how manufacturing shoes in the United States works and the employment that that the industry creates.

Allen-Edmonds has invested $1.5 million converting to a lean manufacturing system, purchasing new equipment, changing the factory layout, implementing rigorous quality processes and developing comprehensive training programs. As a result, productivity has increased 30% in the last three years, damage rates have declined 25% and inventory has been reduced by nearly 60%.

In 2005, the premium men’s’ footwear and accessories company had a record year.
