Price of shoes exported to EU rises

28/06/2006

According to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), the unit price of shoes produced in Fujian and exported to the EU increased by 62.4% to $11.09 between January and April. However, the volume of shoes exported fell.

CLIA officials said that this was attributable to an improvement in quality as well as a result of increased duties imposed on shoes made in China.

According to Guangzhou customs, 11.869 million pairs of leather shoes worth $81.154 million were exported from the Guangdong province between April and May. This equated to a decline of 38.5% in terms of volume and 37.4% in terms of value.
