Double win for footwear student

Liam Fahy, 21, from Zimbabwe, has recently been announced as the winner of both the Lineapelle Young Designers’ contest in Italy and the 2006 Drapers Student Footwear Designer of the Year award. He has been a student on the Footwear Design degree course at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK for the past three years.

His award-winning designs will be exhibited at at Graduate Fashion Week in London on June 4-7.

The design for which he won the Lineapelle award was an iRobot inspired exo-skeletal structure providing contrast between hard and soft footwear.

The winning design for Drapers was a colonial-inspired ladies spat ankle boot featuring an interchangeable upper and a heel modelled on the butt of a revolver. This category of the awards had 65 entries.
