Loafer supply under careful control at Loro Piana

Milan-based fashion group Loro Piana has said it could sell many more pairs of its iconic White Sole loafers, but prefers to keep supply under control so as not to make the shoes ubiquitous.

Chief executive, Frédéric Arnault, made this remark in a rare interview in September. Speaking to the Financial Times, Mr Arnault said: “Sometimes short-term growth can be to the detriment of long-term, sustained success.”

He also said that Loro Piana’s market valuation had increased from €2 billion when the LVMH group, run by the Arnault family, acquired it in 2013 to an estimated €11 billion today.
