According to local media reports, South African footwear manufacturer Strassberger Skoene is set to close at the end of September.

Based in Clanwilliam in the Western Cape, the company traces its origins to a shoe-making operation established in Wupperthal in 1834, making it one of South Africa's oldest footwear manufacturers. The business is widely associated with the production of traditional veldskoen footwear and has been part of the country's footwear industry for almost two centuries.

The reported closure would bring an end to one of South Africa's longest-established footwear manufacturing operations. At the time of writing, no public statement regarding the reasons for the closure had been issued by the company.
