Covation Biomaterials starts commercial Xatryx production
Polymer developer Covation Biomaterials has begun commercial production of its Xatryx bioTHF and bioPTMEG materials at its new 50,000-tonne Qidong plant in China.
The company said the first commercial batches, produced in August, met industry-standard specifications across three bioPTMEG molecular weight grades.
For footwear, CovationBio has also partnered with insole brand Insite to develop what it describes as the first partially bio-based sports insole made using Xatryx bioPTMEG. The product was presented at the NW Materials Show in Portland, Oregon, on September 2-3.
Xatryx bioPTMEG is positioned as a bio-based alternative to fossil-based PTMEG and can be used in applications including polyurethanes and thermoplastic elastomers. The material is produced from non-food biomass, including agricultural by-products.
