Increase in volume for China’s leather footwear exports

China exported 2.1 billion pairs of shoes in the first quarter of 2026, bringing in revenues of $9.4 billion.

These figures represent a decrease of 2.5% in volume and of 8% in value.

Leather shoes contributed 120 million pairs to the total export volume, with a value of more than $1.5 billion. This means the volume of leather footwear exports for the quarter was up by almost 10% compared to the same months in 2025. However, revenues from leather footwear exports in the first quarter of 2026 were down by nearly 10% year on year. 

Total footwear imports into China over the quarter reached 38.9 million pairs in volume and $1.3 billion in value, falls of 20.4% and 2.8%. respectively. For leather shoes, imports reached 10.4 million pairs in volume, which had a value of $530 million, down by 18.4% and 5.6% respectively.
