Support programme brings strong Italian presence to Chennai

A programme called Assomac Around the World led to a total of 25 Italian leather and footwear machinery manufacturers traveling to Chennai to take part in the 2026 edition of the India International Leather Fair (IILF).

Italy’s national pavilion at IILF occupied 280 square-metres. Representative body Assomac said the event had given Italian technology providers a good opportunity to connect to buyers in a market it regards as being of great importance.

The association’s market analysis put the combined value of India’s leather and footwear sectors at €19.6 billion in 2025, with the expectation that this will grow to more than €40 billion by 2030.

It said the Indian market gave Italian technology providers 2,100 potential customers to approach.
