Supermarket specialist to take leadership role at Foot Locker
Parent group Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced that Matthew Barnes will become president of Foot Locker’s international (non-US) business at the start of December.
Dick’s completed the acquisition of Foot Locker in September. The parent group’s executive chairman, Ed Stack, is its overall lead for Foot Locker and Matthew Barnes will report to him.
An experienced retail executive, Mr Barnes began his career at supermarket group Aldi and went on to become group chief executive of its Aldi Süd division. He then took the role of chief executive for the UK business of another supermarket group, Tesco.
He said his personal passion for sports made the Foot Locker role attractive. He added that he looked forward to bringing “innovative experiences and exciting new products” to consumers worldwide.
