RM Williams expands Adelaide production to meet growing global demand

Australian bootmaker RM Williams has opened a second workshop at its northern Adelaide site, increasing production capacity by 90 per cent since investment group Tattarang acquired the company in 2020.

The new 20,000 square metre facility, named Bushman’s Base, takes the company’s total footprint in the city to 29,500 square metres.

The expansion brings bootmaking, clothing and repair operations together under one roof and adds a new in-house leather wallet production line, allowing RM Williams to extend its leathercraft expertise beyond footwear. All products continue to be made in South Australia using traditional hand-finishing techniques and premium leathers.

Since returning to Australian ownership, the brand has created more than 350 jobs and upgraded its manufacturing equipment to boost efficiency without compromising quality. Dr Andrew Forrest AO (pictured) said the investment ensures “skills are passed on and every pair of RM boots remains a piece of homegrown excellence.”

With demand rising in both domestic and export markets, RM Williams said the larger site will help it increase output of its signature one-piece leather boots while maintaining the craftsmanship and authenticity that define the brand.
