Nike unveils powered running shoe system with Project Amplify
Nike has introduced Project Amplify, a powered-footwear system for running and walking that uses robotics to help everyday athletes move faster and farther with less effort.

Developed with robotics partner Dephy, the system combines a lightweight motor, drive belt and rechargeable cuff battery with a carbon fibre-plated running shoe. It supports runners at a 10- to 12-minute mile pace and aims to make movement easier and more enjoyable, similar to how electric bikes have transformed cycling.

Over 400 athletes have tested the prototype at the Nike Sport Research Lab, logging more than 2.4 million steps. Testers reported that it felt natural and made uphill running feel like moving on flat ground.

Vice president of Create The Future, Emerging Sport and Innovation, Michael Donaghu, called Project Amplify “a bold leap forward” in Nike’s mission to enhance movement through technology.

Project Amplify remains in development, with wider consumer release planned in the coming years.
