The world can benefit from “the power of sport”, Mizuno says

The president of Japanese sports group Mizuno, Akito Mizuno, has said access to sports, as participants and fans, has become even more important to people around the world than before the covid-19 pandemic.

In a foreword for the group’s most recent sustainability report, Mr Mizuno said it was a pity that many governments had deemed sports non-essential for periods of time during the pandemic and, when professional sport did return, banned or restricted fans’ access to events.

“The return of spectators reminded us of the joy, inspiration and hope that sports bring,” Mr Mizuno said, and he insisted that the power sport has can be harnessed “to build a more prosperous and sustainable society”.

He said the Mizuno group was committed to encouraging the athletes it works with to raise environmental issues when they speak at events or on radio and television. “Their words can inspire change,” he insisted.
