TPU midsole innovation from Huntsman boosts cushioning and performance
US chemicals supplier Huntsman has developed a new supercritical foam (SCF) technology, Smartlite SCF 280 TPU, designed to provide lightweight cushioning, comfort and durability for sports and lifestyle footwear.
The material, softer than the existing Smartlite SCF 285 TPU, is optimised for use in midsoles for running shoes and casual sneakers.
Claimed to support automation through consistent processing, it is compatible with direct injection techniques. It offers up to 64% rebound, improved hydrolysis resistance, and the potential for mechanical recycling, supporting circularity when end-of-life take-back programmes are in place.
Stephane Peysson, global business development manager at Huntsman, said the technology “offers an advanced platform aligned with design, automation and environmental needs.”
It will be officially unveiled at SIMAC on September 23.
