Fifth Global Sporting Goods Report now available from WFSGI
The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has launched a new edition of its Global Sporting Goods Report, which it worked on with professional services firm McKinsey & Company.
This is the fifth year in which they have published the report, presenting their analysis of the trends that are shaping the global competitive landscape in sporting goods.
With ‘Sporting Goods 2025 – The new balancing act: Turning uncertainty into opportunity’ as its title, the 2025 report includes the results of two new surveys, market research, analysis and interviews with industry leaders.
As in previous editions, the 2025 report identifies physical inactivity as a major untapped market. It says sporting goods companies have an opportunity “to take targeted action to empower sedentary consumers to increase their physical activity levels”.
According to the report, active consumers also present a good opportunity for sporting goods brands. The fit are becoming fitter, it says. Therefore, brands can work to develop products that meet “the emotional and functional needs of active consumers and foster long-term loyalty”.
Another of the main findings is that “challenger brands” and new entrants are expanding their market share at a faster rate than main players. It says this is because of a decline in barriers to market-entry.
