Reconomy Connect and Renewshoe tackle footwear waste

03/03/2025
Waste management company Reconomy Connect, has partnered with footwear recycling specialist Renewshoe, to improve footwear recycling and reduce waste. The initiative will offer designated drop-off points for unwanted shoes, making recycling more accessible for consumers.

Renewshoe recycles shoes into materials like rubber, foam, and leather, which can be used to create products such as picnic tables, sports flooring, and even new shoes, like the ASICS Neocurve.

With 24.3 billion shoes produced globally each year, and 95% of footwear ending up in landfill or incineration, recycling remains a significant challenge. Dave Seal-Yates, Head of Circular Solutions at Reconomy Connect, highlighted the importance of the partnership in reducing waste and supporting a circular economy.

Gareth Denton Smith, Managing Director at Renewshoe, expressed that the collaboration will help scale up efforts to recycle footwear responsibly and reduce its environmental impact.
