Union budget boost for Indian footwear
The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has projected significant growth in the footwear and leather sectors following the Union Budget’s announcement of a focused product scheme.
In a statement released by the CLE, it is estimated that the initiative could boost exports by over Rs 1.1 trillion ($12.6 billion) while enhancing productivity and competitiveness.
CLE Chairman Rajendra Kumar Jalan outlined the scheme’s comprehensive support, which includes investment in design capacity development, advancements in component manufacturing, and machinery procurement for non-leather footwear production. The initiative is expected to strengthen the sector’s global standing and drive long-term growth.
