Specialist chemical supplier Dow announced the introduction of a new portfolio of low-carbon material solutions to enhance sustainability in the footwear industry. The portfolio includes bio-circular materials, post-consumer recycled resins, reversible cross-linking resins, and polyolefin elastomers for artificial leather applications.

In collaboration with Porto Indonesia Sejahtera, Dow’s Revoloop resins are being used in premium sandals, making it the first brand in Asia to integrate these recycled materials. This initiative supports a reduced carbon footprint by minimising the use of virgin plastics.

The expanded portfolio also features bio-circular options like Engage REN elastomers and Elvax EVA REN, using certified alternative feedstocks. Additionally, Dow’s reversible resins enable recyclability in footwear, while their artificial leather solutions are lighter and free from harmful additives.

These innovations align with Dow’s goal to commercialise 3 million metric tons of circular and renewable solutions by 2030, supporting the footwear industry's shift towards more sustainable materials.
