NFW finalist for Earthshot prize
Natural Fiber Welding (NFW), a biomaterials company based in Peoria, Illinois, has been selected as a finalist for the 2024 Earthshot Prize.
The company is competing for one of five £1 million awards, which will be presented at the Earthshot Prize Ceremony in Cape Town on November 6. NFW was recognised in the "Build a Waste-Free World" category for its development of plant-based materials that replace petroleum-derived plastics, used by brands such as Vivo Barefoot, Camper, and AllBirds.
CEO Dr. Luke Haverhals highlighted the environmental impact of plastic pollution, stating, "Plastic is quite literally poisoning us and the planet. We’ve developed biomaterials to replace plastic in fashion, footwear, and interiors."
NFW is among 15 finalists chosen from 2,500 global nominees. The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William, aims to support innovative solutions to critical environmental challenges.
