State to boost Calcutta Leather Complex
According to local media, the state government has announced a 100 billion rupee ($1.2 billion) investment in the Calcutta Leather Complex, aimed at generating an additional 250,000 jobs, bringing the total employment in the complex to 750,000.

This decision was announced by the Chief adviser to the Chief Minister, Alapon Banerjee, following a review meeting led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The investment will support the establishment of 187 new tanneries and 139 footwear units. Additionally, the state will allocate 19 billion rupees ($227 million) for infrastructure improvements and 4.75 billion rupees ($56 million) for a drinking water project. HIDCO (Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation) will develop a leather mall near Alipore Museum to enhance the marketing of leather products.
