Slow sales of footwear machinery bring down Assomac export figures

14/06/2024

The main representative body of Italy’s tanning and footwear machinery manufacturers, Assomac, has reported an increase of more than 12.5% in exports of technology to leather manufacturers in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Assomac said this mainly thanks to a good sales performance in Europe, the Americas and Africa.

In contrast, its member companies brought in revenues that were down by 4.6% year on year for exports of machinery for making footwear and leathergoods. This was in spite of a good performance in the Americas and Oceania, it said.

It said the figures for 2023 confirmed the resilience of an important sector for the Italian economy, but warned that 2024 had started poorly, with exports falling by more than 20% in value in the first two months of the year.
