Manufacturing jobs are good options for young Europeans, CEC says
The general secretary of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC), Carmen Arias, has said parents and teachers in Europe should accept technical training and manufacturing jobs as good choices for young people.
In recent comments to industry media in Spain, Ms Arias called on more schools to take students to see how shoes are made in Europe in the 2020s. She said many young people are unlikely to consider applying for a job in a shoe factory because they have an outdated idea in their minds about the way footwear factories work.
She also called on families to be more accepting of technical studies as a good option for young people because European economies need technicians.
On the same subject, she said it should be easier for qualified people from other parts of the world to receive acceptance in Europe of their training and experience and find good jobs there, owing to the labour-shortage difficulties that many European manufacturers face.
