Mattress effect engineered into new Kiprun road shoe
Footwear brand Kiprun, part of the Decathlon group, has launched its first new shoe of 2024, the KS900.2.
Kiprun will move away from a broad athletic footwear focus, Decathlon has said, and dedicate itself from now on to running and trail shoes. It added that the KS900.2 “embodies this new positioning perfectly”.
The shoe is specifically for road running. It is an update to a 2023 shoe, the KS900 Light, with the principal difference coming in forefront cushioning.
To achieve this, the brand has increased the thickness of the sole in the forefoot. To be exact, the sole in this part of the shoe has a thickness of 33 millimetres, while the thickness at the heel is 39 millimetres.
According to Kiprun, this has reduced stiffness in the forefoot by 47%, resulting in what it calls “a greater balance in the cushioning in the shoe as a whole”.
The foam that makes this possible has a deliberately padded appearance. This, the brand says, makes it look as comfortable as a mattress. Kiprun has called this proprietary material MFoam, with the ‘M’ standing for ‘mattress’.
