CLE outlines ambitious vision for the future
According to the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), India's leather and footwear industry is expected to experience significant growth, reaching $47 billion by 2030, up from the current levels of around $17.3 billion, local media reports.
The leather and footwear industry's exports are projected to double to $13.7 billion in the next six years, according to the CLE's vision document. The document outlines the industry's global outlook, infrastructure landscape, and best practices, as well as recommendations for the short, medium, and long term.
According to the former Chairman of the CLE, Sanjay Leekha, the vision document aims to increase production and exports in the next 5-7 years. The goal is to achieve an industry size of approximately $47.1 billion by the year 2030. Out of this target amount, the footwear sector (including both leather and non-leather) is expected to contribute around 50% of the total. This highlights the importance of the footwear sector in accelerating production and exports.
