Road-race record hopes for Hoka in Monaco
Athletic footwear brand Hoka has become the main sponsor of the 5,000-metre event at the Monaco Run Gramaglia series of road races.
The races next takes place on February 10 and 11, with the 5k event scheduled for the morning of the second day.
World Athletics only began accepting 5k road-race records, distinguishing them from track-times, in 2018. Since then, the Monaco event has witnessed world record-breaking performances.
In 2020, Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei set a new record of 12:51 for a road-race at Monaco. This record was broken in 2021 by Berihu Aregawi of Ethiopia, who achieved a time of 12:49 at a road-race in Barcelona.
Hoka has said it regards the Monaco Run Gramaglia event as the likely setting of further world record-breaking runs in future.
