Footwear can benefit from pre-stretched yarns, Woolmark says
Australian merino wool promotions body The Woolmark Company has worked with long-term partner Shandong Nanshan Textitle Apparel Company to develop new yarns for sports apparel.
They have developed fibre-stretching technology that pre-stretches merino wool fibres before spinning. This has allowed them to develop yarns that are particularly suitable for weaving wind- and water-resistant fabrics without any chemical treatments.
The resulting fabrics, in various weights and blends, can be applied to soft-touch windbreakers, pants, shirts and footwear, The Woolmark Company said.
It has added these new yarns to a range called Optim, which it developed with Nanshan.
