Cordwainers footwear awards adds athleisure prize
The UK’s main student footwear design competition, the Cordwainers Footwear Awards has announced the addition of a new award section.
The Sneaker/Athleisure award recognises the innovative design work in this area of iconic footwear and will be presented to the winner at an awards ceremony on June 7.
This year, 15 finalists from London college of fashion and De Montfort University, Leicester are competing for prizes worth £8,000 ($10,000), plus the opportunity to gain guidance and mentoring from industry professionals.
“The awards are always a riot of colour, innovation and excellence and I can’t wait to see what our students produce this year”, said John Peal, Master of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers. “We are proud to embrace initiatives that will engage the top designers of tomorrow.”
Cordwainers is one of the City of London’s liveried companies, or ancient trading guilds. The company established the awards in 2014 to support the future of the shoe industry by celebrating and encouraging young footwear talent.
