Winning bid to acquire French group is from Intersport and Al-Mana
Athletic footwear retail group Intersport has won the right to acquire French group Go Sport.
Founded by Bordeaux-based entrepreneur Michel Ohayon, Go Sport operated more than 80 sports stores in France, with 87 others run as franchises. It had almost 50 other franchised stores operating outside France. It went into receivership in January.
French courts gave interested parties until April 18 to submit bids for the business. On April 28, a court in Grenoble announced that a bid that Intersport had submitted in partnership with Qatari group Al-Mana had won.
Intersport will keep 72 Go Sport stores and will retain more than 90% of the 1,500 retail employees Go Sport had.
The court said there had been 20 bids for the business.
