Nearly 150 attend first BFA sustainability summit
The first-ever British Footwear Association (BFA) sustainability summit took place in Birmingham towards the end of April.
Hosted by senior vice-president of industry trade association Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America, Andy Polk, the day-long conference drew almost 150 attendees from across the sector, Mr Polk said afterwards.
Key areas of focus included chemicals, traceability and the social side to production, as well as the need to develop “green” materials, supply chains and products, more future-minded business models and “leading brand stories”. Speakers included representatives from Dr Martens, Vivobarefoot and Allbirds, while partners such as Jones & Vining, Pavers, Clarks, Insite Insoles, Sole Responsibility, Schuh and Micam provided sponsorship.
Jane Wilson was made BFA chair last summer, following Robert Perkins' departure.
