Footwear growth fails to make up for Pakistan’s leather export drop

24/03/2023

Pakistan’s leather industry achieved export revenues of $640 million in the first eight months of the current financial year, July 2022 to February 2023. This figure represents a fall of 3.1% year on year.

This decline has come in spite of substantial growth in footwear exports from Pakistan. Over the eight-month period, shoe manufacturers exported almost 16.4 million pairs of shoes of all kinds, bringing in revenues of almost $125 million, giving growth of 37.8% in volume and of 20% in value year on year.

However, tanners shipped 7.2 million square-metres of finished leather, earning export revenues of $113.9 million, falls of 27.2% in volume and of 15% in value.
