Basketball star launches first collection with Nike
Sports brand Nike has announced a new partnership with US-Romanian basketball player Sabrina Ionescu.
The New York Liberty point guard has worked with the brand to develop an initial apparel and footwear collection, which she has said will be “for everyone who loves the game”. She becomes the first women’s basketball player to deliver a unisex signature collection with Nike.
Apparel in the collection comprises a hoodie, T-shirts, shorts, game socs and a cross-body bag. Nike has drawn particular attention to the socks, which have 80% recycled content in their material mix and cushioning, compression, traction and Achilles support built into their design.
A shoe called the Sabrina 1 represents the footwear component of the collection. Inspired by Sabrina Ionescu’s heritage, the shoe includes intricate embroidery patterns on the forefoot that pay homage to traditional Romanian art and architecture.
