FFC research shows that repairability matters
French footwear industry body the Fédération Française de la Chaussure (FFC) has carried out new consumer research that shows the importance of repairability when it comes to shoes.
FFC conducted the research in January and February 2023, asking around 3,000 consumers for their opinions. Asked if they agreed that all shoes should be repairable to prolong their useful life, 88% said they did. The organisation said expressions of agreement were equally high across age groups and among women and men.
It said the footwear industry will work with specialist organisation Refashion, which is dedicated to the prevention of footwear and textile waste, on a new campaign to encourage people to bring shoes they no longer wear for repair.
It added that it was also greatly encouraged that a new anti-waste law in France, which goes by the name AGEC, will provide funding of around €150 million between now and 2028 to help bring about a shift in attitude among consumers.
FFC said it hoped this would help make repair and reuse of shoes the norm.
