Fimec under way in Novo Hamburgo

The Fimec exhibition opened in Novo Hamburgo on March 7 and will until March 9. A panel of industry leaders, including the president of footwear manufacturers’ association Abicalçados, Haroldo Ferreira, presided over the formal opening on the first afternoon of the event.

This is the forty-sixth time Fimec has run. This edition attracted 350 exhibitor companies, with Argentina, China, Italy, Peru and Uruguay represented alongside a large number of Brazilian states.

Organiser, Fenac, said it hoped to receive more than 20,000 visitors across the three days, with people from 37 countries coming through the doors.

“Fimec was already the biggest exhibition in Latin America for the leather and footwear sector and the third-largest in the world,” said Fenac president, Marcio Jung, “but it is now consolidating its position as a genuinely international event.”

At the opening ceremony, the mayor of Novo Hamburgo, Fátima Daudt, said she was delighted to welcome so many footwear industry professionals to the city. “For these few days at least,” she said, “Novo Hamburgo is the footwear capital of the world.”
