World Footwear Congress postponed

The European Footwear Confederation (CEC), the Footwear Industrialists Association of Turkey (TASD) and the Turkish Footwear Industry Suppliers Association (AYSAD) have announced the postponement of the seventh World Footwear Congress.

Istanbul was to host the event in May but the organisers decided to postpone it following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in early February, which resulted in almost 45,000 fatalities.

Instead, the World Footwear Congress will now go ahead in the same host city in November.

Speaking at Micam in Milan on February 20, TASD president, Berke Içten (pictured), said the earthquakes had hit an important area for footwear production and that around 450 shoe factories had been damaged or destroyed. “We have also lost many talented colleagues,” he said. “But the footwear industry in Turkey will recover and build back stronger.”
