India International Leather Fair returns after pandemic hiatus
The 2023 India International Leather Fair opened in Chennai on February 1.
This, the 36th edition of the event, is jointly hosted by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and the country’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE). More than 400 exhibitors, representing 16 countries, travelled to India to take part.
IILF has gone ahead the first time since the covid-19 pandemic, which stopped the event from taking place in 2021 and 2022.
In his welcome address, CLE chairman, Sanjay Leekha, said: “The entire world is now looking at India as a major and reliable supplier of value added products and the leather industry is no exception to this.”
Invited dignitaries included the Tamil Nadu government minister for environment and climate change, Thiru Siva Meyyanathan, and the minister for handlooms and textiles, Thiru R. Gandhi.
In 2023, IILF will host various off-site events, including the sixth Designers’ Fair, and an executive forum to discuss footwear and leather accessories.
