Shoe industry veteran dies
The footwear industry in Italy is mourning the death of Fabio Donda at the age of 94. His funeral took place on December 14.
After studying economics in his home city, Trieste, and shoe design in Vigevano, Mr Donda devoted his working life to Calzaturificio Donda, the footwear firm his grandfather had founded in 1887.
Fabio Donda was a pioneer in taking Italian-made shoes into export markets, specialising in building relationships and building up the reputation of made-in-Italy footwear in Eastern Europe.
He remained active in the company on a day-to-day basis until the age of 88.
He was active throughout his working life in footwear industry organisations, at regional, national and European levels.
