Wage rises needed to avoid worker unrest says Prada CEO

The chief executive of luxury brand Prada, Patrizio Bertelli, has said in recent comments to Italian media that he fears a wave of popular unrest in Italy if workers do not receive adequate pay rises.

Inflation has lowered the living standards of many factory workers and if companies do not shoulder the rise in costs, the state must intervene, Mr Bertelli told daily newspaper La Repubblica.

He called on the government to come up with a structured plan to put more money into workers’ pockets. He said this would help “spark renewed enthusiasm” and help the economy recover.
