Kering confirms the departure of Gucci creative director

Luxury group Kering has confirmed the departure of Alessandro Michele as the creative director of Gucci. Rumours of his departure had been circulating in the industry for some time.

Gucci chief executive, Marco Bizzarri, said Mr Michele had given 20 years’ commitment to the brand, giving it “his vision, devotion, and unconditional love”.

But Alessandro Michele said his path had diverged from that of Gucci and Kering “because of the different perspectives each one of us may have”.

Kering sought to reassure the market that a design team remained in place at Gucci to carry the direction of the brand forward until it announces “a new creative organisation”.

Of all of the group’s brands, Gucci is by far the largest earner, bringing in revenues of €7.75 billion in the first nine months of this year out of a total across Kering of just over €15 billion, more than 50% of the total.
