Direct-to-consumer strategy aids growth for Dr Martens

Footwear brand Dr Martens has reported revenues of £418.6 million for the first half of its current financial year, the period from April-September 2022.

This represents growth of 13% year on year.

It sold 6.3 million pairs over the six-month period, which is flat with the same period a year earlier.

It pointed out that the previous year’s figures included sales in Russia; it has filed a figure of zero for sales in Russia in the first half of this year. It explained that it had “cancelled supply to the Russian market immediately after the invasion of Ukraine” in February 2022.

Chief executive, Kenny Wilson, said an important contributing factor in the growth Dr Marten’s achieved in the first half of the current year was a strategy it has put in place to prioritise direct-to-consumer sales. Growth in direct-to-consumer revenues in the six-month period was 21%.
