Footwear export growth continues for Brazil
Growth in Brazilian footwear exports has continued. Figures for the first ten months of 2022 show manufacturers shipped 119 million pairs to export markets, with a value of $1.1 billion, up by 20.2% in volume and by 55% in value compared to the same period in 2021.
These results also represent growth of 25% in volume and of 35% in value compared to the same period in 2019.
However, in the last two months there has been a slowdown in exports which is attributable to the global economic situation, according to Haroldo Ferreira, executive president of footwear industry association, Abicalçados.
Brazil’s main destinations for footwear exports are the US and Argentina. So far this year, exports to the US have totalled 16.2 million pairs with a value of $296 million, an increase of 38.2% in volume and 66.6% in value.
In the case of Argentina, Brazil is aided by both countries being members of the Mercosur trading bloc. In the first ten months of 2022, Argentina imported 14.3 million pairs of Brazilian shoes worth $157.64 million, up by 33.3% and 70.6% in volume and value respectively.
