Export boom for Brazilian footwear components continues

Brazilian exports of footwear components and leather supplies continue their upward trend. In the first nine months of the year, sales abroad reached $331.9 million, an increase of 22% when compared to the same period of 2021.

In common with the footwear sector, the growth of the Brazilian industry is associated with the problems of China and international transportation, and the ability to offer quality products and services.

Taking only the month of September, the increase was 36% compared to last year and totalled about $41 million. Compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic, exports still managed to outpace that year by 21%.

Product sectors that performed well were chemical products with sales of $153.4 million, 16% more than January to September 2021. Components for uppers grew by 17% to $89 million, and in percentage terms, soles were the items with the highest growth, posting 47% for a total of $21.69 million.

According to industry body Assintecal six of the ten main destinations for Brazilian exports are in Latin America. Other important destinations are the US, China, and in the EU, Portugal is the main buyer.
