Surge in leather footwear exports for India
India’s leather industry has reported export revenues of more than $2.8 billion for the first half of the current financial year, the months from April to September 2022.
This figure represents an increase of 25% year on year.
Revenues from exports of finished leather were flat at $225 million but exports of leather footwear increased in value by 37%, reaching almost $1.3 billion.
The value of leather garments increased too, by 10% year on year, reaching more than $190 million, while the exports of leathergoods were up by more than 20%, reaching $710 million.
India’s last full-year figures for leather exports were revenues of almost $4.9 billion. The first-half figures for the current financial year suggest the industry is on track to beat this total handsomely.
