Successful leather workshop at De Montfort University

Ten final-year design students at De Montfort University in Leicester recently had access to a four-day workshop to help them increase their knowledge of leather and their ability to work with the material.

Ancient industry guild The Leathersellers’ Company sponsored the workshop, which was led by London-based leatherwoods designer Charlie Laurie.

He said the workshop was a success and said he was impressed by work the students created and by the facilities available to them at the university.

Associate professor for enterprise at the university, Gillian Proctor, said the students had shown “incredible enthusiasm”. She thanked The Leathersellers’ Company and paid tribute also to leather manufacturing group Pittards, footwear brand Dr Marten’s and leathergoods brand Tusting for their support, which included donations of leather for the students to work with.
