UNIDO director points to great opportunity in ‘secondary raw materials’
The president of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, Manuel Albaladejo, has said the businesses across the world are guilty of misinterpreting “the meaning of waste”.
At a recent event in Montevideo, Mr Albaladejo said: “Between 2002 and 2019, international trade in industrial residues grew by almost 9%, compared to growth of 7% for trade in general. This shows that these residues are, in fact, a resource.”
He went on to say there was a great business opportunity in “this market for secondary raw materials, which is to say materials derived from the transformation of industrial residues”.
