AquaGuard zipper is born again, YKK says
Zip fastening specialist YKK has developed what it is calling an environmentally friendly, water-repellent version of its AquaGuard zipper.
This new version, Natulon, will gradually replace its conventional water repellent AquaGuard zipper in products. YKK said this process will take a year to complete.
AquaGuard Natulon has a tape made of recycled PET plastic, which the manufacturer is introducing as a more sustainable alternative to the polyurethane laminated conventional AquaGuard, which it has been delivering to customers for 20 years.
In addition, it said the new version has a fluorine-free water repellent, improved opening and closing operability and a more attractive appearance.
YKK’s vice-president for product strategy, Hisashi Yoneshima, said customers had been asking for “a switch to green specifications”, as well as for improvement in operability, adding: “The zipper has been reborn.”
