“We share in the great sorrow felt at the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II,” said the industry’s main representative body, Leather UK, “and thank her for her years of service.”
Somerset-based leather manufacturer Pittards echoed this. Chief executive, Reg Hankey, said: “On behalf of all at Pittards, our sincerest condolences to all members of the royal family at this very sad time. Our Queen never ceased to inspire us with her wisdom, devotion to duty and empathy.”
Scottish Leather Group shared similar sentiments and said of Queen Elizabeth: “She was an extraordinary role model for people around the world as the UK’s longest-reigning monarch, and as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.”
London’s ancient trade associations and guilds, the City of London Livery Companies, including those with connections to leather and footwear, also expressed their sympathy.
The Leathersellers Company said: “Members and staff express deepest condolences to the royal family. We will remember and continue to be inspired by Her Majesty’s commitment to enduring values and service.” The Worshipful Company of Glovers said the queen had “devoted her life to her people with unwavering dedication and service”, and the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers said she had “earned the affection of generations here and around the world”.
