Forum hears about footwear industry-specific certification programme
Guatemala’s national footwear industry association, Grecalza, has successfully hosted the XXIV Latin American Footwear Forum. The event took place in Guatemala City on August 8 and 9.
Brazil’s Abicalçados took the opportunity to present Origem Sustentável (‘Sustainable Origin’), with project manager Cristian Schlindwein, calling it the only environmental, social, and corporate governance certification system in the entire global footwear production industry.
He told an audience of footwear industry professionals from all parts of Latin America: “Origem Sustentável conveys what the footwear production chain is already doing in terms of sustainability. It is encouraging more and more companies to take part in this movement for a better future.”
Representatives of the national footwear industry bodies of 12 countries took part, with those of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Equador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, El Salvador and Nicaragua, as well as Guatemala and Brazil, taking part.
